Lunatic: We’re here with the ‘Angel Of Darkness’, How u doin man?
AD: I’m good, just here enjoying the Canadian weather (laughs).
Lunatic: (laughs) its damn cold man. So tell us about how you got into rapping and making your own music?
AD: I just grew up watching my two older brothers, spitting on the corner in ‘Shoreshot’ to the studio makin classical ’Jane ’N’ Finch’ music. Straight up! Hip Hop eventually caught me in its web and before you know it, I was writing, freestyling, battling, producing, and the whole nine. People in my hood tell me that music definitely runs in my blood.
Lunatic: That’s great to hear man. How old were you when you began doing all this stuff?
AD: I have been spitting since I was mad young, maybe around 10 but I would say, 14 was the age where I took it serious.
Lunatic: Good stuff man. So were did you get the name "Angel Of Darkness" from?
AD: I got the name "Angel Of Darkness" from my people in Shoreshot. Can’t remember who specifically gave me that name but I do remember people telling me that I’m a dark angel. "One minute you’re all smiles and the next minute you’re a fucking lunatic" is what my people would tell me. The name has just stuck me with me to this present day. I would prefer Robbie Khan though because I’m all about that motto "real name no gimmicks".
Lunatic: Real talk. You have some real creative and deep thinking songs, do you think that is lacking today in the hip-hop world?
AD: Of course, music is definitely lacking creativity. A lot of theses artist’s "follow fashion" if you know what I mean. Originality is also a big fucking hole in the industry. Nowadays everybody feels like there’s some sort of formula to make a song. I can’t even tell who the fuck is a Canadian rapper anymore the way these suckers bite off Tupac, Jay-Z, Nas and etc. but who am I to say what hip-hop lacks. Music is a form of expression period.
Lunatic: I feel that. Do you have an album in the works?
AD: I do as a matter of fact. I’m in the studio everyday, I dropped an album last year in July 2007 called ‘Independence Day 07.04.83’ (which the fans can download down the page) feat. Jane ‘N’ Finch’s anthem ‘In My Hood’. I’m planning on dropping my 2nd album this year around the same time. I haven’t figured out a name for it yet but be on the lookout for a new Robbie Khan album.
Lunatic: good to hear. Anything else the fans can look forward to?
AD: Check out my myspace page www.myspace.com/robbiekhan, I put up new songs on it every week. Check out all my music videos while you’re on the page. Also check me out on www.jane-finch.com, and also google Robbie Khan, you’ll find whatever you’re looking for (laughs).
Lunatic 63: Which rappers are you feeling in today’s hip-hop world?
AD: That’s a tough question. Umm…let me think…NOBODY!! Hip-hop today is watered down.
Lunatic 63: for real. Were do you see yourself in ten years?
AD: That’s another tough question. I couldn’t tell you where I see myself, I’m not a palm reader, but I could tell you where I wanna be in ten years and that’s at the top of the music chain where everything I say or do is jotted down in music history. "Picture me rollin…" ya know?
Lunatic 63: no doubt. Which artists have you looked up to?
AD: Kool G. Rap, Nas, Krs 1, Mobb Deep, Shyheim, and Tragedy Khadafi to name a few. There’s a lot of rappers, Wu-Tang, The Roots, Onyx, Master P, G-Unit, Slick Rick, M.O.P. etc… But the one I looked up to the most was the late great ‘Makaveli’ R.I.P.
Lunatic: Any last words for the fans?
AD: Be on the lookout for Robbie Khan AKA Angel Of Darkness coming straight outta Shoreshot, Jane ‘N’ Finch, Toronto, Canada. Listen… Don’t make music for a material reward, they say it’s better to give than receive. Be true and don’t send out fake bullshit in your songs. Motivate and inspire the youth. Everyday is a struggle, keep ya head up and your mind on your money. Bless up. I’m out.
