12/22/09: Introducing MC Shadow

MC Shadow from Guatemala

One of the 1st events at the Guatemalan "Revolucion Hip Hop Festival" featured MC Shadow. I watched homeboy perform, then later met him. He looked out for me finding my way around Guatemala and proved to be a good ally. MC Shadow is one of the young MC's in Guate, hungry for the mic and is doing his thing. Expect more from this brother........

12/22/09: New Music From Guerilla Eme

I recently met Guerilla Eme in Guatemala, a dope painter and MC from Mexico. His homeboy Spaik said that he normally performs with his crew but they couldn't make it to Guatemala so homeboy performed solo and rocked it. I've said it many times, hip hop in other countries feels like the essence of what all love about hip hop.-Jehuniko

12/22/09: Tha 5th Element Is Back On I2G

Tha 5th Element

As the flagship artist/producer for his own record label, Dub 3 Entertainment, Tha 5th Element quickly established himself in Las Vegas as the go-to guy when fantastic music was needed.

Tha 5th Element gained a sizable following with the release of his debut mixtape as Tha 5th Element entitled The Temptation. In particular, "Watch Out" which featured Sean P and co-producer Riza, became a breakout hit. The success of this single led to Tha 5th Element doing shows throughout Las Vegas. He soon signed rappers Doc Famous and Sam Blaze to his company and together the new label set out on creating their debut mixtape as a group, Tha FixTape.

On this mixtape, Tha 5th Element paid homage to his underground/independent sound on various songs Doc Famous-- and produced three successful street hits: "Devil’s Playground," "16 Shots," and "Don’t Stop." Tha 5th Element simply wasn’t going to settle for the underground/independent market and so, along with Sam Blaze, they put together a slew of songs that were geared more towards a mainstream audience. Songs like “I’m Fly” and “Dirrty Love” were well received and their success as a company motivated Tha 5th to commence his next solo project.

Due to a failed engagement, Tha 5th Element shrunk away from music for a few months and eventually signed up to leave for the US Air Force. For some reason though, it seems as though all Tha 5th Element needed was a realizing he had a countdown before he could do music for a long time, and he hit the ground running working on music once again. For this next project, he enlisted the help of Bay Area born independent phenomenon, G-Eazy and together they dropped “Tha Illest Remix”. Tha 5th Element also released the singles “Still Alive” produced by Mike B Beatz, and “Throwing My Love Away”, a self produced song about heartbreak featuring the amazing GC.

Sadly, the deadline arrived before he could complete the project and so the project was put on hold until 5th finished his basic training. Upon graduation, he got right back to music and finally completed The Demo LP. Shortly before its release, due to unknown circumstances, Doc Famous parted ways with Dub 3 Entertainment and Tha 5th Element joined Mind Rite Entertainment where he currently resides as an Artist and Producer.

12/22/09: Introducing Chalie Boy, Free Mixtape Download

Texas may be known as the Lone Star State, but the southern hotbed has been responsible for birthing dozens of rap stars. While Houston, and even Dallas, has gotten a majority of the national spotlight over the years, newcomer Chalie Boy is set to change all of that. Representing Hearne and Calvert, Texas—two of the state’s smaller and overlooked cities—the rapper/singer possesses a unique style that offers up a refreshingly different sound than the chopped & screwed and candy coated content fans have come to expect from the region.

"I was heavily influenced by artist that fused hip-hop and R&B, like Nate Dogg and Screwed Up Click legend, Big Moe," says Chalie, who also sites UGK, Scarface, Luther Vandross and Gerald Levert as musical influences. "I started singing in church when I was a kid and with my love for both R&B and hip-hop, I saw that there was an avenue for my particular style—it’s a hybrid of the two genres."

Listening to various types of music coming up, Chalie, who got his start in the church choir, focused on singing in high school. While other kids were spittin’ verses at the lunchroom table, he was belting out harmonious melodies. It wasn’t until 2000 that Chalie decided to add rhyming to his musical repertoire. That year, he made his rap debut on local hip-hop group The Freestyle Kingz’s mixtape with Dirty 3rd Records’ DJ Bull. "I actually fused my singing with rapping," recalls Chalie. "People really responded to it, so I felt like I had a lane to move in."

Chalie did more than move in, he took over. Eventually signing with Dirty 3rd Records, the Texas titan went on to build up his buzz, performing alongside DJ Bull and The Freestyle Kingz on stage and on several hot mixtapes. It wasn’t long before Chalie and Freestyle Kingz member Tite formed a self-titled duo that released four successful tapes. By 2004 Chalie was ready to break out on his own and dropped his first solo mixtape, Makin’ My Way, which sold a respectable 20,000 units. A year later, a collection of original tracks and mixtape records were released as Chalie Boy’s Greatest Hits. The series was so successful that it spawned three more volumes that were equally popular. Chalie’s coming out party, however, would be via his 2006 mixtape, Versatyle Child, which included his first regional hit, "Bumpa Grill." Return of The Versatyle Child would follow a year later, but 2009 would be when Chalie broke into the mainstream with his smash summer anthem, "I Look Good." The feel-good record, and its remix featuring Slim Thug, Juvenile and Bun B, was such a huge success—cracking the top 50 on the Billboard Hip Hop/R&B chart—that the rap rookie and Dirty 3rd Records were able to sign with Battery/Jive Records in September 2009.

"Signing a major deal with a label like Jive/Battery Records is one of the highlights of my career," says Chalie. "’I Look Good’ being a nationwide hit and the video being on MTV and BET’s 106 & Park countdown for several weeks are as well. Since 2000, I have constantly been doing shows and I have a very solid fan base. It’s really just been consistency, a lot of hard work and determination on the part of me, my label and my team."

Over the course of the past few years, Chalie has opened for such high profile artists as Young Jeezy, T.I., Slim Thug, Gorilla Zoe, and The-Dream, among others. In addition, he’s been featured on over 200 mixtapes, including 12 solo and 10 group tapes. Constantly growing as an artist, the multi-faceted artist continues to perfect his craft and earn the respect of his peers. In 2009, he collaborated with Grammy Award-winning rapper Chamillionaire on "Call Me," off Chalie’s I’m Here mixtape. Through his artistry and constant hustle, Chalie has proven that Texas is more than a lone star state. Now the determined to introduce his brand of hip-hop to mainstream audiences with his still-untitled major label debut. "I want to let the world know that there is more to my artistry than just the hit single, ‘I Look Good,’" says Chalie. "I want to let the world know that I’m here. I’ve had tons of fans in my region that have supported me for several years, but now it’s time for me to show the world what I have to offer."

Chalie Boy has released a new mixtape with all original beats and we here at I2G have it for free download.

Meet B-Ezzy, a Maryland born,  St. Louis based rapper who in his young career has already worked with Project Pat, had a mixtape hosted by heavyweight mixtape DJ, DJ Smallz and recently completed a collaboration with bay area legend, Mistah Fab — not bad for an MC who has been rapping for under a year.

With the release of his “Party Tonight” single, B-Ezzy is ready to take St. Louis hip-hop by storm, similar to how Nelly grasped the game over a decade ago.  Enjoy!

10/28/09: E1 To Release The Avon Barksdale Story On DVD

E1 Music is excited to announce the release of The Avon Barksdale Story- Legends Of The Unwiredin March 2010. This gripping film won Best Docudrama at this year’s NY International Independent Film & Video Festival and reveals the raw truth about death, drugs, and violence in the streets of Baltimore , MD. In The Avon Barksdale Story, the real Nathan Avon "Bodie" Barksdale tells all to actor Wood Harris, who played his on screen character in HBO’s critically acclaimed series The Wire

The Wire was based on the lives of real gangsters. The Avon Barksdale Story is the first to chronicle the actual lives of these real people.  Barksdale’s real name, Nathan Avon Barksdale, and his nickname, “Bodie,” were both used in the series as composite characters. Avon Barksdale was The Wire’s first season’s central character. The storyline focused on the Barksdale clan and their ruthless hold on Baltimore ’s underworld and the intense efforts of law enforcement to stop them. Barksdale was a real crime figure in Baltimore .

Barksdale says he consulted David Simon, the creator of The Wire, during the early filming of the highly successful mini-series. He says, “The Wire was one long commercial for this!”

During the drug wars of the ‘80s, long before The Wire’s drug kingpin Avon Barksdale entered the mind of David Simon, a young man (named Nathan Avon "Bodie" Barksdale) was in the belly of one of the most violent neighborhoods on Baltimore ’s Westside. The Lexington Terrace Projects was one of the most notorious areas in the city making it the perfect backdrop for HBO’s The Wire. But unlike David Simon, an admitted outsider, this story possesses the intimate detailing which can only come from an insider’s view. The real Barksdale brings the riveting fact-filled account of his world now known as The Avon Barksdale Story – Legends of the Unwired. A must see story for all true fans of The Wire!

This film was financed, directed, and produced by the KAJ Enterprise film group.

10/15/09: 40 Glocc, Zoo Life Prep Street Album

California's 40 Glocc is no stranger to controversy. As a native of Colton, in California's Inland Empire and a neighborhood affectionately know as "the zoo", it kind of comes with the territory. You can choose either to eat, or be eaten and 40 Glocc stays well fed. Using his experience as a solo artist under Empire Records/BMG, for whom he dropped 2003's "The Jackal", and the knowledge gained from his close association with 50 Cent and G-Unit, to whom he is signed via Mobb Deep's Infamous Records, 40 Glocc has amassed a respectable roster of artists from around his way and launched his own label, ZooLife Entertainment; whose first project, "Concrete Jungle", drops nationwide on December 1st with distribution through Urban Music Alliance (UMA.)

"Concrete Jungle" is jam packed with music that shows 40 Glocc and Zoo Life are doing their part to hold up the legacy of West Coast Gangsta Rap. It features songs with Zoo Life's Sun, Village Boo, Lil Boo, Tip Toe, Ken Bib, Locie Loc and Yacc as well as 40's female counterpart, Gail Gotti (Night In Gail Entertainment.)

The title track, Concrete Jungle" featuring Village Boo and Tip Toe dropped last week and its accompanying video can be seen on 40 Glocc's YouTube channel at http://www.youtube.com/user/BIGGBAD40 .

2010 will see 40 drop his much anticipated solo project, "N.W.A. New World Agenda" and perhaps his involvement in more film roles. His first was in the 2009 teen comedy, "Miss March", which opened earlier this year.

When 40 Glocc is not creating entertainment, he spends his time defending his craft which has recently come under the scrutinization of the State of California. They are currently seeking a gang injunction against the artist and his crew, in an attempt to keep them away from the neighborhood in which most of their friends and family reside, citing unsubstantiated episodes of drug dealing and similar instances, the evidence for which appears to be 40's rap persona and lyrical and video content. The case for this is still pending.

Meanwhile, back at 'the zoo', life goes on and music gets made. That's just the way it goes down, in Colton.

10/13/09: Juvenile To Release New Album

JUVENILE GETS "COCKY" WITH NEW ALBUM;

SUPERSTAR ANNOUNCES FIRST ALBUM IN THREE YEARS;

FIRST SINGLE, "GOTTA GET IT" ALREADY CHARTING AT URBAN "HANDS ON YOU (FEATURING PLEASURE P)," BLOWING UP AT RHYTHMIC RADIO OUTLETS EVERYWHERE!

"COCKY AND CONFIDENT" SCHEDULED FOR NOVEMBER 17TH, 2009 RELEASE( New York , NY ) --UTP/Atlantic recording artist Juvenile has unveiled early details of his eagerly awaited new album – the New Orleans-based rapper’s first in over three years. "COCKY AND CONFIDENT" is scheduled for a November 17th, 2009 release at all physical and online retailers.

The album is heralded by two singles: the sizzling album track, "Gotta Get It," currently #47 and growing at urban radio, and "Hands On You (Feat. Pleasure P)," impacting now at Rhythmic radio outlets nationwide, having already been the #1 most added new track at Crossover.

"COCKY AND CONFIDENT" follows Juvenile’s "REALITY CHECK," which debuted at #1 on the Billboard 200 upon its March 2006 release. This new album sees the acclaimed MC collaborating with a stellar line-up of guest performers, including Pleasure P, Kango Slim, Bobby V, Rico Love, B.G., Dorrough, and Q Corvette. Among the producers are such studio superstars as S-8ighty, Mouse, Precise, Lu Balz, C. Smith and of course, Juvenile.

Juvenile came to national prominence as a teenager with the 1997 debut of the HOT BOY$ (Juvenile, Lil Wayne, B.G. and Turk), "GET IT HOW U LIVE," followed by the HOT BOY$ platinum record "GUERILLA WARFARE." Juvenile’s major label solo debut, "400 DEGREEZ," in 1998-99, sold 4.5 million records and is universally considered one of hip hop’s classics. Juvenile’s three albums thereafter, "THA G-CODE" (1999) "PROJECT ENGLISH" (2001), and "JUVE THE GREAT" (2003) were each platinum plus, with the latter featuring the #1 smash single, "Slow Motion."

Juvenile’s UTP/Atlantic debut in 2006, after Hurricane Katrina, with "REALITY CHECK", broke out of the box as the Number 1 album in the country, highlighted by the RIAA gold certified single, "Rodeo," along with such hip-hop hits as "Way I Be Leanin’ (Feat. Mike Jones, Paul Wall, Skip, and Wacko)" and "Get Ya Hustle On/What’s Happenin." Written in the wake of Hurricane Katrina, the latter track and its powerful companion video directly addressed the governmental neglect that the area and its citizens experienced in the months following the monumental storm.

"Cocky and Confident" is Juvenile’s second Atlantic album, and E1 Records is adding its hip hop marketing muscle to the release, confident in the continuation of the extraordinary success of this great artist from New Orleans’ Magnolia Projects.

10/1/09: B.G. Preps New Album

( New York , NY ) ¡ª Former Hot Boy and ¡°Living Legend¡± B.G. is back to take the streets as he unleashes   his new, long-awaited album, Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood, slated for release by E1 Music/Chopper City Records/Atlantic Records on November 24th.

B.G. wrote and recorded over 80 songs for the new album and narrowed them down over time to include only the best of the best!  Over 3 years in the making, Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood features B.G.¡¯s classic shoot ¡®em up, bang bang flow that fans have come to know and love.  With over 3.3 million albums sold as a solo artist, and 2.1 albums sold as a member of The Hot Boyz, B.G. has created another classic with Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood.

The first single, ¡°Back to The Money,¡± with production by Oddz n Endz, explains B.G.¡¯s return to the rap game and why he¡¯s been away for so long.  ¡°Back To The Money¡± will be followed by the second single, ¡°My Hood¡± featuring Mannie Fresh¡°My Hood¡± is a true testament to the progression B.G. has made with his music.  With the creative Mannie Fresh sounds and B.G.¡¯s hard verses and classic flow, the track proves Gizzle is right on target

B.G. a/k/a B. Gizzle is a true hood superstar.  As a grimy N¡¯Awlins HOT BOY and the true originator of the Merriam-Webster Dictionary term ¡°bling-bling,¡± B.G. has overcome incredible personal and professional strife while consistently putting out bangers year after year.  Now with 14 years under his belt (and only 29 years old), B.G.¡¯s new album Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood is ¡°Baby Gangsta¡¯s¡± 11th solo album to date and his long-awaited, often delayed follow-up to The Heart of Tha Streetz, Vol. 2.

¡°Sometimes I am denied my props but it¡¯s cool,¡± says B.G.  ¡°I am coming back and taking everything the game owes me.  It doesn¡¯t owe me anything but respect.  I¡¯m still the hottest of the hot.  At the end of the day, I just want the respect I truly deserve.¡±

Alan Grunblatt , President of E1 Music adds, ¡°B.G. is the artist that put E1 Music (KOCH Records) on the map.  He is an original Hot Boy and we are so excited to have him back.¡±

Atlantic Records Group Chairman & CEO Craig Kallman noted, ¡°B.G. is an iconic artist who has been a force on the hip-hop scene for more than 15 years.  His rare longevity is a testament to B.G.¡¯s enormous talent, charisma, and influence.  We¡¯re very happy to be partnering with Chopper City and E1 for the release of his much-anticipated new album.¡±

B.G.¡¯s Too Hood 2 Be Hollywood includes killer production from Scott Storch, KLC, Cool & Dre, Oddz n¡¯ Endz, Justice League, Salvage, and more.  Special guest features include Lil Wayne, T.I., Juvenile, Trey Songz, Yo Gotti, Young Jeezy, Lil Boosie, and many more!

While signed to Ca$h Money, B.G. released a string of albums, including True Story (1993), Chopper City (1997), and 1997¡¯s It¡¯s All On U (Volumes 1 and 2).  He further bolstered his status by becoming a member of the now legendary Hot Boys (Juvenile, Lil Wayne, and Young Turk).  B.G.¡¯s Chopper City in the Ghetto (released in April 1999), debuted at Number 1 on Billboard¡¯s Top 200 chart. But what really put him on the map was the album¡¯s anthem, ¡°Bling Bling,¡± which catapulted B.G. to superstardom. He became a part of history when the term ¡°bling-bling,¡± used to describe diamonds, was added into The Oxford English Dictionary, a testament to hip-hop¡¯s effect on modern and pop culture.
