DELINQUENT HABITS INTERVIEW

10/18/06: D-Marc back with another interview. Delinquent Habits was gracious enough to take time out of their busy schedule to do a interview with Illuminati 2G. Delinquent Habits was actually the first group to post one of my reviews for their album Merry Go Round on their website so it is cool to chop game with them. In the interview we talk about touring overseas, their new album, New & Improved, coming out October 25th, and a grip of other things so sit back and enjoy.

Fans have really been anticipating the new album New & Improved coming out on October 3rd. What can the fans expect from the album and who will be appearing on it?

We wanted to go back to our "Tequila Party" roots. Sometimes you can get caught up in themes and changing your formula, when all you need to do is go back to your basics. For us it was just having fun while making the music. Not really thinking about what it was gonna sound like, but more of just recording, freestyling, writing about what was going on with DH lately. We just called a few old homies like Ozomatli, Sick Jacken and of course Michelle to be a part of it and get the collaborative juices flowing. Fans can expect an upbeat vintage DH sound and style, in a time of hip hop chaos.

Where can we get the new album? Fans have really been fiending for it.

We're tyring to being smart about it this time and trying to hit all the right channels so the fans won't have a hard time finding it. We have it up on itunes and the other major digital sites first. Next, we will be releasing the hard copy CD's on October 25th (due to a cd printing error) and will be hitting all the stores. We will also be selling it at the delinquenthabits.net web site as well as DH live shows.

How many singles are being released? Any videos?

We have the first single "En Este Varrio" coming out first and after that we will do 2 more. For the "En Este Varrio" video we will be featuring Ozomatli and will probably be filmed here in L.A.

So is Michelle a offical member of DH and tell us a little bit of what she brings new to the group.

Yeah..she stepped up when we started bringing her on tour instead of just the studio..She complimented what Ives and I already were doing so we decided she should add to the formula. She shakes it up for us, since we know what we're bringing with the beats and rhymes. But with her she has a wild style that surprises us with adlibs or certain songs she makes up on stage that we end up using on albums.

The group really revolutionized the sound of hip hop with the fusion of mariachi and hip hop. And with O.G. Styles behind the boards, it is not your average group. Did you guys think back when you debuted you
would blow up like this?

Not at all. We were just happy to get our 2cents in at the time...You had Cypress Hill, Funkdoobiest, House of Pain, Ice-T, Wu Tang, Mobb Deep, Big Pun (RIP) and all these bad ass groups riding big and we were next in line. We were just glad we were close to the big dogs and could learn.

Latin hip hop on the west coast is starting to get some much needed exposure. Although it is not where it should be at, what are your thoughts on the state of latino and chicano rap?

It's cool to see it get the exposure it needs. I just hope it doesn't get corny or played out quick. I hope it helps all the fellow latino artists get their proper due. Without any of that it's almost impossible to reach an audience.

What do u want people to get from New & Improved? How would you describe it to people who haven't heard it yet?

We want them to get back that good DH vibe they are used to feelin from us...Lately we been going through re-structuring and biz dealings which delayed our music, but we are back ready to perform, promote, meet people, whatever. Just to show that DH isn't planning on going anywhere for the time being...You miss hip hop? Well, New & Improved will bring it back to you.

Any tours planned for the U.S.? It has been a while since you guys have been here in Vegas.

Now that the album is finally coming out we can focus on straight shows in the U.S. Being an independent music company takes a lot of time so we sometimes fall behind on bookings, but we're on it..Vegas can't be neglected!

Any shoutouts or final thoughts?
