DORROUGH INTERVIEW 7/26/09

Dorrough

I2G kicked it with Dallas, TX and E1 Music artist Durrough for a exclusive interview. We discuss his new singles, Walk That Walk and Ice Cream Paint Job that are currently out right now, why he feels his album not only is a classic but will be the best of 2009, his tour schedule and much more so check it out.

Illuminati 2G is here with Durrough how's it going?

Just chillin man, making it happen.

Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in hip hop and who are some of your musical influences out there.

I started doing the music thing in high school. I starting making and selling mixtapes in high school. I was making songs and I was the captain of my basketball team so I was making songs for us to run out to. In high school I started to create a buzz and then I took it to the next level once I graduated. I went to a small college outside of Houston called Prairie View A&M and I just took advantage of that whole college market. I was out there selling my mixtapes and they became real popular. Alot of DJs then started getting familiar with me, so everytime I dropped singles, they were just flooding the streets with them. That is how I got started, musical influences I would say I am influenced by the whole down south movement. I grew up listening to Lil Flip, UGK, DSR, Lil Boosie, Ludacris, Lil Wayne, anybody that is making good music I was influenced by.

Tell me about the music scene in Dallas, Texas where you are from?

The music scene is crazy, we are influencing the entire southern region right now if you ask me. Especially around Oklahoma, Louisiana, Kansas, Mississippi, almost the entire region. Everything coming from Dallas is alot different then the music coming from Houston. The difference between Dallas and Houston is in Houston they have more of a laid back style of music. In Dallas the music is more high energy. We have alot of talent in Dallas right now, and it is growing. I say by this time next year or maybe 2 years from now, we will have really made a mark in the game. It is just really a high energy, trendy type of music. We got our own swag and we are influencing alot of what people are doing right now.

Tell me a little bit about the 2 new singles that you have currently out right now, Walk That Walk and Ice Cream Paint Job.

Walk That Walk is my first single, and it got real big while I was in college. There were alot of females and alot of sororities so that was how I came up with the concept for the song. It got so big amongst females that even now to this day it is their anthem. That is what made it so big, because they made it their song. It took a while to push it, but once it caught on, it did big things. It was number 3 on 106 N Park's Top 10 countdown and it is doing real good. Ice Cream Paint Job is a whole other story. It is a different vibe but real high energy. It was a mixtape track and I ended up putting it on my myspace. DJ Amen and Big Warren from the Bay Area, shout out to them, San Francisco area, they took it from my page and blew it up in San Francisco.

Before it was even big in the south or Dallas where I am from. It blew up on the west first and I ended up having 2 singles blowing up at the same time. So by then my label E1 Music picked up on the records and pushed up even more and it is what it is now. Ice Cream Paint Job is tearing down the charts also on 106 N Park. It was at number 4 and it is growing everyday. Each week it is getting higher on the Billboard charts, ITunes is crazy. Right now it is one of the biggest records in the country right now. Hopefully it will become a top 10, top 5 record, or maybe even number 1. It is doing its thing, we also did a official remix to the song with Jermaine Dupri, Soulja Boy, Jim Jones, Slim Thug, E-40, Rich Boy. We are just doing it big with it.

Let's get right into the new album. What can people expect from your debut album, Durrough Music, on August 4th?

Yeah it is a classic album. That is all that I can say man, it is a classic album. We are anticipating 3 to 4 singles to come off the album, not including the 2 singles that are out right now. I put a whole alot of hard work into this album, it is going to be the biggest album this year. I really don't feel like there is going to be a album in 2009 that music wise is better than it. It is definitely a classic album and I feel like once it drops, that the music will speak for itself and I really won't have to do any talking.

Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates coming up that you want to let the people know about?

Man I am on tour now, I just came from San Antonio, going to be in Dallas and Shreveport, just came from the Bay Area and I am doing a show soon in Las Vegas. We have another tour coming up in August which is the whole midwest area. Just came from Indianapolis and Milwaukee and Chicago. Sacramento and LA also so every weekend, 5 days out of the week, I am in some different city and state.

So your full fledged into it then. That's cool.

Yeah everything full fledged right now.

What is your Myspace, Twitter, website information for people looking to check out your music?

http://www.myspace.com/dorroughmusic. I am on Twitter, http://www.twitter.com/dorroughmusic. On Facebook as well with durroughmusic. I am everywhere. I am in the streets, in the club, on the radio, in the videos, just trying to do it big. I feel like as a artist you have to grow and build everyday and that is what I am doing with the new singles popping off, I'm doing it.

Alright well that is all the questions that I have for you, appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?

Just shoutout to all my fans and everybody that is supporting me. That is who I am doing it for. The haters are going to be the haters and I love them too. Just anybody who is down with the movement shout out to them.

Appreciate the interview

Aight bet.
