10/12/07: Today we do things a little different. I have a interview with Daisy, CEO of DPDesignz in Dallas, TX. Her company specializes in cd covers, flyers myspace design pages and much more. We talk about these things with her company and her management ventures, the music scene in Dallas, and much more so check it out.
D-Tell me a little bit about your graphic design company, the name and how you got started?
DPD- Well my design company was started of course by me about 3 years ago. I mean I had always hand drawn photos so I knew what I was doing when I began making them on the computer. I did'nt know much but I knew when a picture was made right. I used to get told alot that I should make them for other people, but I never really thought about it until I came upon a great oppurtinity to make cd covers for a dj and so I was up for it. As in the name, ever since I was in high school I went by the nickname dtown princess that in being where I'm from and from what I saw that people in royalty are ranked higher than average so that's where the name DPDesignz came from it stands for DTOWNPRINCESS DESIGNZ not many people knew but then they broke it down and found out.
D-What services does your company specialize in?
DPD- My company specializes in mostly cd/mixtape covers but I also make banners, flyers, club promo, custom pictures for a site or page on the web, and we also make layouts for myspace pages mostly anything you can think of we can make or try to provide to all our clients.

I have a team of ladiez that helps me out when I am over booked with work. It consists of myself, Joann aka JoJo in which she helps me make animations and gives me advice on if the final touches are just right, and Monique which does our promotion for our group on sites. Together we make The Royalty Ladiez and if you choose we can help promote and make a great piece of work for you.
D- Sounds good. What are some of the projects your company has worked on recently?
DPD- Well recently we worked on a cover with a local artist, Young Boo from Beaumont, Texas and are in the process of another but I work with all types of people on profile pictures for their myspace pages. I've made pictures for Big Tike of the old school Swishahouse, for DJ Lil Steve whose with OG Ron C and Wreckin Yard and we also made a layout for grouch out da nawf of Hata Proof Records. I work and help out everyone so I also have a big project coming up with DJ Westcoast Chopper from Street Pharmacy and the real djs. We will be launching a double disc cover soon for one of his mixtapes.
D-You had also told me that you manage artists as well?
DPD- Yes I do manage a DJ. He came to me with a ton of work and so I told him that I'd help him out to get his mixtapes and his name out so we came together and we even started a record label called South N Yo Mouth Records. Currently we have one artist whose name is King Jones with us who has a great lyrical and abundant sound to his tracks. But as in artists I think I have more then enough work from one lol. But am always waiting to see whose next to contact me so we can help them get their voice out.
D- What is the music scene like out in Dallas?
Well actually at the time I think we have tons and tons of people that have a great sound, but I actually think since the big out burst of everyone from Houston I think we dont get as much shine as they do. We have great artists such as Big Tuck of DSR and Tum Tum and wow there's many to name but I do think we will get our chance one day since the south hit it big and we've still managed to stay in the spotlight but I don't think we should get classified into that type of sound since we from Dallas do have things and sounds no one has heard yet. Thats why I help all and every local artist that I can because I know one day they will make it. Lets say I just have confidence in that we will get our music played one day out there on mainstream.
D- Always good to hear people repping and supporting local talent. We need more of that. What music are you bumping in the ride?
DPD- Well I mean I bump alot of mixtapes from my own DJ as in Stayin Screwed Up series 2,3, and 4 coming soon [which can be found on datpiff.com] but I also listen to many artist from the dirty south as in UGK's Pimp C and Bun B and man I love to jam to any S.U.C track I straight up like them old school songs from Big Hawk and Dj Screw. I love music and I think that music is a way of expression for everyone. I Jam chopped n screwed music all the time even though i've heard from many that girls or ladies arent neccessarily meant to like it but that being said makes me like it more its in our roots just being from Texas so why not rep it with guts. But there's various music I like. Me being Hispanic and all listenin to Spanish since a young age and all but I mean I like my Westcoast music from Eazy E, Ice Cube, to Eastcoast's 50 Cent and Biggie but you know dirty south is my number one always.
