D-SKILLS INTERVIEW 1/12/08

1/12/08: What up yall, D-Marc back with our 1st interview of 2008. D-Skills from Lafayette, LA chopped game with me this time. In the interview we all about his upcoming album, his views on the rap game and much more to check it out and leave comments in the message board or the forum.

Tell me about how you got to music and your influences growing up.
I was always in band so music a was a big part of how I grew up. I was kinda influenced by anybody that had a song on the radio, a video on TV I started writing when I was about 12 or 13 I didn't start recording anything for about another 2 years. Once I got to high school one of my homeboys had the equpiment and I've been hooked ever since.

Tell me about the music scene in Lafayette, Louisiana

Lafayette, or "Da Flat" as we call it is full of talent, some people may have heard of the "Entourage" who hit the national scene a few years ago with their remake of "the Bunny Hop" and of course we have Cupid who everyone around the country knows for the "Cupid Shuffle". Other than that we have several local artists rappers, singers, and actors that are beginning to get exposure (sorry I can't name yall cause if I forget somebody I'll never hear the end of it) There are opportunities for us to really stand out as long as we continue to create goood music and avenues for us to showcase that talent

What are your thoughts on the music coming out of the South right now?

I'm personally a fan of the majority of music coming out of the south for several reasons. First cause we're getting the exposure that we've desered for a long time. Second...  I know some people may be offended but the South kept hip hop alive by not taking it over but reinventing it and carving a lane for us to do 'Southern Hip Hop".

Real talk right there man. Do you feel that the internet/myspace has been a helpful resource to get your music out there?

Yes anyone who isn't using this "FREE" resource to help promote yourself to millions of people around the world just really should try to find something else to do with their life cause obviously the hustle and grind of this life isn't for you.

How would you best describe your style on the mic?

I call my style "Southern Lyrical" its basically a mix of southern swag music, and mix some lyrics and substance. (Take TI or Chamillionaire and mix em with Kayne West and you'll get D-Skills)

Any plans for a mixtape or album in the near future? If so any details you can give out right now about the project?

Yeah my next project is called "All Hustle No Sleep" and right now we're looking at a February 5th release right in time for Mardi Gras...It has production from Charlie B, Big Rich with C- Note Productions, Dub-Lee from the Beat Geeks, and Legato from the Beat Bangerz. It also has guest appearances from the whole All or Nuthin camp ...Official, Stryfe, Young Money Dutt, also Blue da Kid the Mic Rockers and a few others.......

What in your opinion do you feel is missing from the game right now musically?

You know what I think all things happen for a reason...Everybody thats in right now did what they had to do to get to where they are. I won't discredit anyone by saying they didn't deserve their shot cause I don't want people to say that about me. I just feel one day my talent will shine through and it'll be my time to eat...and I'm greedy so I'm trying to eat for a minute

Any tour dates or show dates you have coming up?

I gotta couple of appearances hear and there but I do want everyone to check the myspace page its www.myspace.com/officialdskills or check the label www.myspace.com/allornuthinentertainment I am working out the last minute details for the "All Hustle No Sleep" tour coming to a city near you this summer. FYI there are still a few slots open if there are some cats looking to get on it. I'm always looking to network.

Any last words or shoutouts?

Yea this is ya boy D-Skills "Mista All Hustle No Sleep".....I grind 25-8!!!!!! I just wanna say to anybody reading this you can do whatever you believe you can do. I'm where I am cause made the desicion to pursue music as my profession. Whether its the books or the block do what you gotta to get to where you wanna be.
