DWAYNE "DL" CLARK INTERVIEW

The star of the movie, King Of Paper Chasin, Dwayne "DL" Clark took some time to chop it up with Illuminati 2G. We discuss the movie along with the accompanying soundtrack, his new solo album and much more, so check out a little background info on the project and a trailer from the movie before checking out the interview. Enjoy.

King of Paper Chasin' is led by Triplebeam Entertainment Hip Hop Recording Artist Dwayne "DL" Clark. DL portrays the role of "Carter Blanche" while Actress/Model Piarry Oriol takes on the role of DL’s distrusting girlfriend "Thaila". This New York City crime-drama is inspired by actual events and is brilliantly captured and told by first time feature film director La Monte Edwards and is executive produced by Dwayne "DL" Clark. This movie tells the story of one man's rise to power 'Carter Blanche', and his journey of how he claimed his stake in the American dream. Additional cast members include Lauren Hooper "Rachel Anderson", J. Stephen Williams "Uglyman", Joe Soma "Agent Richardson", Jason Rivera "Dell" and Dennis L.A. White "JB" among others.

In a city of 9 Million people everyone is engulfed in the everyday rat-race chasing that almighty dollar. But history teaches us that behind every wealthy empire is a major crime; and "Carter's" rise to power is no exception. Trying to go legit, he is faced with deception, betrayal, and self serving agendas from those closest to him, mainly his live in girlfriend "Thaila".  Little does “Carter” know that his girlfriend is cooperating with the FBI to build a case against him.   "Cart’s" childhood friend and partner in crime "Uglyman" (Ug) is released from jail after 7 years.  Ug, is now back in the picture again and begins to cause conflict with "Cart’s" new cohort "Dell" who has trouble trusting the loyalty of "Carter's" past crew. "Carter" must maneuver his way through all of those who want to see his empire crumble.  As he determines who's friend or foe, the decisions "Carter" makes can and will cost.

The film will be accompanied by the self-titled soundtrack “King of Paper Chasin’” and will be released under the imprint of Triplebeam Entertainment and lead by the street anthem “Bossman” performed by “DL” and the club banger "Throw it on Me", produced by Skem. In addition, the soundtrack will include productions and collaborations by Platinum producer Jimi Kendrix (Jay Z, 50 Cent, R. Kelly), Mona Lisa and Chainsmoka among a few other surprises.

Illuminati 2G is here with Dwayne "DL" Clark how's it going?

I'm good man, everything is good. How you doing?

Good, good. Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences out there.

Well I basically got my start during the whole hip hop era, in the 80's. I come from the neighborhood or artists such as Run DMC, LL Cool J, in that vein. I pretty much took up the love of music from artists like that, and they are also some of my influences as well as today's artists like Jay-Z, Eminem, T.I. Snoop, just to name a few.

You are prepping the release of your new movie, King Of Paper Chasin. Tell me a little bit about the movie, the concept and how it all came together.

Well the movie is basically...., like you said it is called King Of Paper Chasin. Is a movie kind of based on my life and how it is coming up in a urban, low income community, and we pretty much engaged in illegal activity and the criminal lifestyle so to speak. As we got older and into our 20's, one of the characters in the movie gets shot and gets paralyzed. When that happens, it basically effects my character and he starts to change his way of thinking, and the way he goes about doing things.

He tries to evolve from that whole criminal lifestyle. In doing that, he is using music as a tool to do that and getting further and further away from it, he is dealing with the obstacles and adversities from both sides of the fence. Not only from the friends that he is leaving behind, being jealous, but also from the corporate side who don't want to see him come up and more or less trying to keep him down. The movie goes into all those different things and just shows how my character deals with them and prevails.

Did you find the transition from being a artist, to going into movies and basically producing movies and the whole concept. Did you find that a easy or difficult transition or are there any similarities between the two?

I mean there are alot of similarities, I will say that. The key thing is, not only with the movies and the music, just like anything in life, when you are doing anything that is new to you, the best thing that I can say is that always surround yourself with people that know what they are doing. It will definitely make the transition that much easier so not only do you have a clue what is going on, because of the eyes and ears that are around you, but it also helps you learn at a quicker pace so you can learn things alot easier and faster.

You also have a accompanying soundtrack to the movie right?

Yeah actually there are going to be 2. There is going to be the unofficial soundtrack, King Of Paper Chasin, which is my album and then I am going to do the official soundtrack that will feature various artists.

Is there any details that you can give about the unofficial one, basically your solo album?

Yeah my solo album, we are working on it as we speak. It is due out around the same time as the movie, 1st quarter 2010. I am working on different features, there are a couple features that I am still trying to lock down, but I do have a feature with Trey Songz and I am actually scheduled to go into the studio with Keyshia Cole next week to do a song for the album. I just have alot of hot stuff for the album, I am very excited about the project.

Are you going to do any tour dates or shows or anything to help promote the album and promote the movie as well that is coming up for you?

Definitely, there aren't any dates as of yet, but yes all of those are in the works and as I said look for all of those things happening in the early part of the new year.

What is your myspace or website information for people looking to check out your music and see what you got going on?

www.myspace.com/dltriplebeam. www.triplebeament.com, www.facebook.com/dltriplebeam1, and I am also on www.twitter.com/dltriplebeam.

Alright well that is all the questions I have for you, appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?

Yeah definitely a shout out to you, D, to your audience and basically a shoutout to anyone that supports DL, Triple Beam, and definitely go to www.youtube.com/triplebeamtv. Check out the trailer to the movie and demand in that comment box that the movie come to your area.
