Stay Enlightened With Hip Hop!!!

FRED KNUXX INTERVIEW 8/22/07

I had the chance to chop game with rapper Fred Knuxx about his incredible upcoming project called Delaphornia, where he is uniting both the east and west, working with some heavy hitters out on the west coast. He talks about the project, his new mixtape, the hip hop game and much more so check it out.

D: Tell me where are you from?

F: I'm from Delaware the (302).

D: Musically who influenced your music?

F: Growing up I was always a fan of Slick Rick, Nas, Jigga, Mobb Deep, Biggie and Pun.

D: What is the music scene like out in Delaware?

F: Alot of people dont know that Delaware is Big on hip hop out here, we just haven't had the light shed on us like other regions. We have alot of talented artist out here thats doing their thing.

D: Your project Delafornia is unique. A east coast mc collabing with west coast artists. How did the project come about?

F: My manager Jazzy D(shout out to Jazzy Management) sent me his unsigned hype mixtape and I was feeling alot of the artist on there so I figured I come out with a project thats bridging the gap for dope music east to west. I told him all the artist I was feeling and he made it happen. We only were expecting to get a couple artist featured but it kind of snow balled and more and more artist started showing love. We have more than enough tracks where we can do a part 2 now. I was recently out in Cali and linked up with alot of artist that were on the project. Me and Noni Spitz are about to work on another east to west project too... So look out for that.

D: Damn that is the bizness right there. I am definitely looking out for that project. So what can the fans expect from the album?

F: Great Music, Unity and Great Chemistry. While recording each song I had each artist style in mind so I adapted to the west coast style more. This was new for me being from the east but it shows versatility. You would think I had a Industry budget because everything on here is on a major level from lyrics, production and features. This is the first time I ever did something like this so i'm excited. I never was big on features but with this project it was needed because its more of a showcase of what 2 coasts has to offer to hip hop.

D: How has the album been recieved on both coasts and when it the album dropping.

F: It's being received well by both coasts. It feels good to get all the love I been getting from Cali. When I went out there Artist where showing me love, taking me around and out to eat and all( Shout out to Jazzy-D, Noni Spitz, Geo Brown, G. Malone, Pooh and Major for holding me down out there) It felt like we were family and we never meant before. So its official now Cali is my 2nd home. Delafornia will drop once we finalize distribution for it and thats soon. A project this big needs to reach the masses so it's no rush.

D: True.Well people are definitely getting hyped for the project. You are gaining a rep for always dropping CRAZY freestyles. My personal favorite is the one you did over the Blueprint 2 beat. Any other mixtapes planned before or after Delafornia?

F: Actually those freestyles are from my new mixtape called "Face Of DE" coming out in a week. I just been in a zone lately and been trying to stay busy. Im already 15 songs deep into my solo album and have a few collabo projects in the works with my homie AO who is another great artist on the east coast and a project with Noni Spitz reppin the west.

D: Any tour dates planned? Hit me up if you out in Vegas any time soon.

F: No doubt, next time I come to Cali we are going to have a album release party for Delafornia and your invited to come. I also plan to come to vegas sometime in the near future so I will definitely be hitting you up.

D: What are your thoughts on the state of hip hop?

F: Not to sound cocky but as long as i'm doing music then the state of hip hop is good... People always like to complain about hip hop but dont offer any solutions, so I decided to look at things differently. If Im making good music then thats all I can speak on ya know. Once artist stop complaining and just make good music and grind with it then the momentum will shift to a different direction.

D: What music is Fred bumping in the system and who are your favorite mcs?

F: I'm bumping that Common now. I have not really listened to much new stuff like that. I either bump underground music or classics like illmatic, ready to die, capital punishment, reasonable doubt, Delafornia( shameless promo lol) and stuff like that. Artist im feeling right now are Kanye, Andre 3000, Nas, Jay, 50, Luda, TI, Jada and my favorite new mcs are Joel Ortiz (he is a MONSTER).. that's one of my favorite up and comers. Saigon, Joe Buddens, Bishop Lamont, G. Malone, Noni, K Aktive, Mykestro and my homie AO.... Thats who you would hear in my whip right now.

D: YES, Joell Ortiz is a beast on that mic. Mykestro ain't no joke either. Crooked has been killing it also. That is all from me. Any final thoughts or shoutouts?

F: Yea Shout out to Shyree, Starcore Ent(Proud and The Gift), Jazzy Management(Jazzy D, Po Z, Major) for pushing hard for Fred Knuxx, AO, Huff, Every artist on Delafornia and every one that ever supported FRED KNUXX..... Its only going to get BETTER and WORSE for you haters LOL!!!!!! Check me out at www.myspace.com/fredknuxx and www.fredknuxx.com
