KARLIE INTERVIEW

I2G sat down with one of the newest signees to arguably the hottest label out right now, Cash Money Records. Karlie talks to us about her new album and label home, her diverse background in film, TV and music and so much more so check it out.

Illuminati 2G is here with Karlie how's it going?

It's going good, what's up?

Not too much. Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences out there.

I started doing Raegee music and my influences are Bob Marley, alot of Jamaican influences, because my roots are from Trinidad and Jamaica. As I got into more Raegee music, my sound started entertwining with Pop, R&B, if that makes any sense.

Yeah, most definitely. Would you say the style of music that you do now is infused with all those different types of music or is it more Raegaee then R&B?

My album is definitely going to be R&B and Raegee. A little touch of Raegee, but mostly R&B and a little bit of Pop as well. So say you would probably hear my songs on a urban radio station and you would hear it on a cross over station as well.

Tell me how you linked up with Cash Money Records and got signed there.

Well my manager, he is actually doing marketing for Cash Money. He hooked up with Slim, Slim liked my music, he really liked my raegee music, and as I started doing more R&B, they started feeling my music even more. Slim was like ok, cool let's do this.

Tell me about your new single, Give Your Heart, that is currently out right now.

Give Your Heart is a little test record/promo record to put out there and see what people think. I am getting really good feedback about it and from there I am definitely going to put something else out that will be even hotter.

Do you have a timetable set for a official single as far as a video or anything?

Absolutely, in the next couple of months I have some big things coming up. I have a TV show coming up, and we are just trying to launch everything at the same time so it will mesh. TV, movies, and music will all bring Karlie to the world this year.

Do you find it difficult to juggle all of those things and what would you say makes each different in your approach to each?

Well when you are working on your album, that is all you want to focus on. With TV, you can be doing many auditions and pick and choose the ones that you feel would be best for you. I feel like as long as you are focused on whatever you are doing, you can definitely make it happen. I put my passion in whatever I am doing and just stay focused and put my heart and soul into it.

Is film and TV something that you see yourself doing more of in the future in more of a producer or director type capacity?

Absolutely. I graduated from the Los Angeles Film School about 4 years ago. With a degree in directing and production so later on down the line..., I mean I already told Cash Money that I am directing my own videos, you have a in house director right here (laughs). That is definitely something that I see myself doing in the future.

One of the other projects that I also read about that you are doing is a film called We Are Family. Can you give any details about the film?

Yeah, that is a film I just recently did and it entails alot of people. Frenchie Davis from American Idol, D. Woods from Danity Kane, Armorosa, I know I am forgetting some others as well. It is a good film and I am really excited about it and I can't till it comes out. I am honored to be a part of this project.

Does it have a release date set for it?

This year, but I am not sure the date.

What are your thoughts on the music industry and where do you think it is headed in the future.

I think the music industry is headed back to a good place. With Cash Money/Young Money, they are breaking new artists and that is something that the industry needs right now. We need new talent and great music and I think we are headed in the right direction for 2010.

Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates?

I always do a show in Paris around April. I do 3 venues in Paris every single year on the raegee tip. That is about it for now, because I am focusing on my album and finding a new producer with a new sound. Just trying to make the hottest album I possibly can right now.

What is your website information for people looking to check out what you have going on?

www.myspace.com/karlieredd. But soon I am going to change the name to just Karlie, because my label just hit me with the name change. www.twitter.com/karlieredd. www.facebook.com/karlieredd.

Alright well that is all the questions I have for you, appreciate you getting down for the interview. Is there any last words or shoutouts you want to get out there to the people?

Stay focused and look out for Karlie coming soon. TV, film, music, I am going to shock the world! Shout out to Jocelyn, and my management as well.

Appreciate the interview.

Thanks.
