Illuminati 2G chilled with Jackson, Mississippi's own King Kane for a interview. We discuss his new album, the state of rap in Mississippi, his style on the mic and much more so check it out.
D: Tell me a little bit about how you started out in the rap game.
KK: I started rapping in the halls at school. Powell Jr. High was like the battle grounds for a lot of freestyle rappers back then.
D: Who are some of your biggest musical influences in the game coming up as a rapper and a fan of rap?
KK: I like a mixture of different artists. Rakim, Scarface, Prince, Al Green, its really to many to name.
D: How would you best describe your style of rap on the mic?
KK: Pimpish and Gangster. Pimpish in the sense of smooth and slow. I like real music with real instruments. It has a feel and means something that way. Gangster in the sense of hard and street. The beat hits hard and the lyrics hit harder. The best of both worlds baby.
D: I can dig that boss. Getting good feedback on the tracks on the front page. Which leads perfectly into my next question. Tell me a little bit about your new album Kings Are Born Not Made and what people can expect from it.
KK: The album is some real nice pimp music. I put some gangster tracks on there for my real hood hustlers. Not that Hollywood studio mess. I make real music for real people.
D: Who handled the production and who makes guest appearances on the album?
KK: All the beats were made by super producer C-Note. Guest appearances by Smokie, Slim Slugga, Lil Mister, T-Roy, Sir Lavish, Ms. Phat, and T-Roy. All Mississppi talent on this album.
D: Where can people pick up the album?
KK: You can get a copy of my album online at www.cdbaby.com/kingkane2

KK: The music scene in Jackson, Mississippi is booming right now, a lot of local artist are getting record deals. We are trying to build Mississippi and the home of a new rap empire.
D: What are your thoughts on what the South is doing in hip hop?
KK: I’m loving what the South is doing in rap. There are some real legends in rap coming from the south. UGK, Ghetto Boys, Outkast. Im just hoping to be apart of that history.
D: Any upcoming tour dates or shows or appearances scheduled?
