D-Marc back with another interview. I chopped game with Krime B, a up and coming rapper and producer. What caught my eyes and ears to his work is that he is allowing artists to use his beats for mixtapes for free. Definitely not something you see everyday. In this interview we talk about his upcoming mixtape, his musical influences, and the deal behind the beats so check it out:
D: Tell me about where you are from and growing up
KB: I was born in Hartford, Connecticut and I represent that city to the fullest. I lived there for about 12 years since birth but since my father was going through real serious financial problems, his line of business
got cut off and we had to move to Florida. Now I presently live in the city of Orlando although life was much betta in Hartford.
D: Who influenced your music and desire to rap?
KB: I have had a few influences, being that the artists whom have influenced me are of course very popular in hip hop and rap today. One of them being Pastor Troy because I like the subjects he raps about and since he keeps close ties to rapping about religion, It really caught my attention so I thought to myself, "If I were to rap about more serious issues goin on in the streets today, it would probably catch the attention of more listeners and It would also bring a good purpose to hip hop and rap. Another major influence in my life has to be Rick Ross, not only can he come up with some hard lines but his voice in general really gets people gripped to his music. Let me also mention the fact that whoever is producing for him is doin a mad straight job cuz the beats used for rick ross are some of the best beats I have ever heard.
D: You posted a grip of free beats for artists to perform over on your soundclick page (www.soundclick.com/KrimeBProductions) for mixtape and demo purposes. Had is almost unheard of. What made you do it?
KB: I enjoy and take comfort in making beats for a real purpose, I mean, why just let a beat go to waste if your not going to use it? So to come up with an easy solution, I just give the beats that are not of interest to me away for other artists to use, given that I get credit and recieve a copy of any projects they are working on that include my beats. One mans trash is another mans treasure, know what I'm sayin'?
D: I hear ya. No sense in wasting a beat if it can be used. Even for mixtape purposes. Artists, you heard it here, free beats to work on ya skills. Tell me about any current projects that you areworking on or are out already?
KB: I'm working on a serious mixtape right now called "NO FORGIVENESS" by your one and only Krime B. I just began working on it like 5 months ago and I'm including some material on there to get blood pumpin for the real fans. Since I used to be a real fan of certain artists, I know what they want and I know what they need. My mixtape is gonna include some material that nobody has ever heard before and I hope that I can introduce a new type of rap. You can expect to hear some real dark twisted songs that may disturb some listeners, but in reality, I'm only spittin the truth. And for the North sides claim that hip hop is dead; Whats the point of bringing back something that's already dead? So I decided to create my own genre of music, therefore I wont be limited by the expectations of hip hop and rap nowadays.
D: What in your opinion are the elments a producer needs to become great?
KB: In my opinion, the elements a producer needs are of course creativity and a good picture of how you see your material being viewed by other perspectives. Anybody can be a producer, but there is a set border for a producer to determine how good or how bad they seem to the listener. Because you can produce material that seems great to you, but if everyone else disregards your material then the only real purpose that you will have to keep producing would be for the simple fact of self entertainment, and in my opinion, self entertainment gets boring fast.
D: Same question, but now about a mc?
In my opinion, again, the required elements an mc needs to become great would be to intimidate the listener. If the listener is affected by the phrases that you say in a song, they will more likely have a positive
outlook on your music. Let me emphasize on this by telling you that the beat and the lyrics coincide with eachother. the beat that you hear simply sets the mood for the song, the lyrics use that mood to set the object of the song and send a message to the listener. You need both music and lyrics to make a real song. Another element that proves very useful is EMPHASIZE key phrases that you really want your fans to hear. Say things Loud and Angry or in a way that will help the listener understand the message that you
are trying to send them.
D: Man that is so true. I can't stand a mc with a monotone voice. So some emotion in your raps. SOUND like you enjoy your craft, angry or not. Which do you enjoy doing more? Raps or beats? It seems like the best of both worlds.
KB: I love both, like I said before, You need both music and lyrics to create a real song. I make beats depending on a subject I want to rap about, which sets a mood, then I create lyrics for that mood and when its all put together, I have a complete song that is ready to be heard.
D: Finish this sentence for me, when a artist gets one of my beats they are getting _____?
KB: Quality Material that is the Product Of My Imagination'
D: Alright that is all the questions from me. Time for shameless promo. Tell everyone about your projects, websites, promote yourself.
