Texas has always been a talent pool since day one, but for the most part the spotlight has been on Houston. Well all that has changed the past couple of years as cities like Fort Worth, Dallas and El Paso have a bubbling hip hop scene. San Antonio is another city ready to be added to this list and we have a interview with one of their up and coming stars, Lo Key. Check it out.

It's going good.

Tell me about how you got started in music and who are some of your musical influences out there?

I got started by basically freestyling with friends and I was getting good feedback and I just ran with it from there. As far as influences, I would have to say TI, Lil Wayne, pretty much anybody that is doing it right now making money. They influence me because they doing something that I am currently not doing at the moment (laughs). So I am trying to get where they at. I respect them all.

Tell me a little bit about the music scene in San Antonio, Texas where you guys are from.

Well around here it is pretty much everyone for themselves. They do not show alot of love here. But it is like untapped oil out here. There is alot of underground music out here, but because we are here in San Antonio, we are the underdogs. It is alot of talent around here, but at the same time it is every man for himself. That is the best way that I can word it around here.

Tell me a little bit about your deal with Champion Bloodline came together, the label that you are with.

Well the label is actually my uncle's label and he seen that I had been doing this music thing for a while. I came at him actually when I first started and I aksed him for some help. I guess at first he thought it was a joke or just me asking for a family favor, but once he seen I was serious about it, he was with it. I won a couple of freestyle contests and shows and he went to the shows and heard and seen my talent and he was all the way with it then.

Do you have any upcoming singles or albums or mixtapes that you have in the works that you want to let the people know about?

Yeah I got a upcoming single called Swaggarific and the album is actually called Mr. Swaggarific.

Do you have a release date or anything or target date set to drop the album?

Nah not at the moment.

If you could best describe your style of music to anyone wanting to check out your music, how would you describe it and why.

Original, uncomparable, I have my own style. I have a universal style, I am from the South but I feel that I have a style that people from all around the country can relate to. Versitile, tight lyrics. I am all about lyrics and speaking on life experiences.

Just wanted to get your current thoughts on the state of hip hop and just what you think of the music coming out right now.

Everyone is a critic and you can't please everybody. Personally I respect the artists out there doing they thing and getting money. I respect them, I like it all, I do not listen to the radio that much, I am more of a cd person myself. I do not have any problem with it, I think I can do a little bit better than some of the songs out there, but that is just my opinion.

What are some current hip hop albums that you are feeling that has either come out recently or some old stuff that you have been playing in the ride or at the house.

I am from the south and I bang Charlie Boy alot. I don't know if you know alot about him but he is real big around here. TI, Drake, I have been listening to B.O.B., I listen to it all man.

Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates coming up for you that you want to let the people know about?

Nah not as of right now.
