I2G chilled with R&B songstress Phyllisia for a exclusive interview. We talk about her singles I'm Tired with Flo-Rida and Money Clap, her work with Ne-Yo, how she balances music and being a full time student at the University Of Miami and much more so check it out.
Illuminati 2G is here with Phyllisia how's it going?
I'm great how are you?
Good. Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences out there.
Those 2 go together for me actually. My start in music comes from the love for it I have had since a young age. I was playing piano and singing classically since I was 3. I went to a performing arts school and did that all through high school and college and that drove me to get into the music industry.
I am a big Sade fan, Anita Baker, and those were the kind of artists that drove me to be in the industry.
Tell me a little bit about your new singles, Money Clap and I'm Tired featuring Flo-Rida.
Yeah we shot the videos for those 2 singles in January and now I am in school so they have been working on them since. I wrote both songs and the videos are going to be really hot. They should be out in the next couple of weeks, I am really excited about that.
Do you find it easy or difficult trying to maintain a musical career and going to school full time?
It is difficult but I am more disciplined because of it. This past week was crazy because I had tests, presentations and papers and they were calling me into the studio. Even though I sometimes lose my cool a little bit, it teaches me time management and how to be more disciplined. It is really a blessing to do the two together.
Do you have a upcoming album that you are currently working on?
Yeah we are working on the album right now and have been since I have been in school. I am a full time biology student so it has been hard. But we have released the single with Ne-Yo, and we are going to release Money Clap and I'm Tired. The album should be dropping in August sometime.
Do you have a title for the project?
We might self title it after my name but we are not sure yet.
What's it like being a artist on Sobe Entertainment?
I love working with them. We all are just crazy people making music and with them they give me alot of freedom to write my own songs. You will always have pro and cons with labels and things that you disagree on, but for the most part we get along really well. It is like a big family.
What are your thoughts right now on the music industry as we now are in 2010?
Good music always shines through. Nowadays we see more people making music for money and you also see the artists out there that do it because they love it. I think those people prevail in the end anyways. But there are alot of artists that I look up to like Beyonce, Alicia Keys, Keri Hilson. There are some good artists out there right now. But I also think there is a increase in artists that don't really make good music, but that is besides the point (laughs).
Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates?
Not right now because I am getting ready to graduate but after that, I know I will be doing shows in the summer. Definitely keep checking the myspace and twitter.
Alright well that is all the questions I have for you, appreciate you getting down for the interview.
Thanks for having me dear.
No problem. Is there any last words you want to get out there before I let you go?
I just want to shout out all the people that have been supporting the records that are out right now. Keep checking out the websites for all the upcoming info, dates for shows, and videos.
