STALYN MIRANDA INTERVIEW

Stalyn Miranda

(The Raw interview Transcript)

Interview: We are in the house with Stalyn Miranda. How are you doing at this time?

Stalyn Miranda: I’m doing great right now. It’s great to touch base with you right now. And it’s crazy because we just found out we’re in the same city.

Interview: That’s crazy! I didn’t expect that.

Stalyn Miranda: I actually saw your number right know and recognized the area code.

Interview: (laughs)  That’s crazy. Let’s get into it. Tell us about why you decided to name the new album “The Young King?”

Stalyn Miranda: The thing is, I was born and raised in Latin America, where I grew up in my neighborhood, I saw little kids addicted to sniffing glue. There is a need for that voice. I’m the young king of the streets. When I came up here, I saw a lot of young people addicted to drugs or doing crime. I definitely want to tell my story and what I’ve seen from back home and over here in North America. That’s really where it comes from. There are a lot of artists that say they are the voice for the youth but really, they don’t speak on those important issues; they speak on some other nonsense.

Interview: I like that. Being born Latin American, how did you make your way up here?

Stalyn Miranda: I had the option to go to California or come to Toronto where we migrated after a bunch of wars in my country. Really, came as a refugee. started from zero. I learned the language and the whole system.

Interview: Talk to us about the first single “Managua City.”

Stalyn Miranda: “Managua City” is in Nicaragua; your pronunciation is right on the money.

Interview: Ok, that’s not too surprising. I’m Canadian but my parents are Portuguese. The language is similar.

Stalyn Miranda: Oh, for real? That’s very cool. We’re Latin.

Interview: Yeah, exactly. It’s extremely similar. I knew I could pronounce it.

Stalyn Miranda: “Managua City” is the anthem to where I was born, where I first took my breaths. It’s an anthem for my people; repping where I‘m from. Although I call Toronto my second home now, I Would never forget where I came from. My struggles my good times - amazing people with great hearts - That’s my city.

Interview: Is that what’s so special to you about the city? Not only a song, but also we’re talking first single.

Stalyn Miranda: Yeah,  My producer is William Dinero and he told me he had that hot stuff. He sampled my own voice; that’s my voice on the chorus. He asked me what I thought about it and it blew me away. It’s perfect.

Interview: In terms of the album, do you have an in-house camp or any guest appearances on there?

Stalyn Miranda: What I did with this album was, I wanted to get a lot of people from different places from Latin America, I decided to call them out and get them on the album; they were more than happy. I got people from Colombia, Brazil, Caribbean, Central America. Its all  in-house, people that I know that are definitely doing their stuff in Latin America.

Interview: Ok, no doubt. You mentioned having your own producer. Did he do all of the production on the album?

Stalyn Miranda: Yeah, definitely he did.

Interview: So do you think that gives you one of those old school, appreciative methods of one producer doing an entire album? Did that give you more of a cohesive sound?

Stalyn Miranda: Yeah it does. I think that’s what makes a real artist. I could of work with alot of different producers. But, when it came down to this album, I wanted to only work with my producer because I’ve been working with him for such a long time. we know each other very well. That is my sound. When you hear my album, It’s world music. We mixed in the Latin drums, rock guitars digital production with live instruments,we sat down and said let’s make a classic album with a bunch of hits.

Interview: The album is available as of right now, correct?

Stalyn Miranda: It is.They can get it digitally worldwide, It’s on ITunes and other digital stores as well. It’s on Amazon and if you demand a physical copy, I have the album physically. I have that for the people who appreciate the physical work.

Interview: That’s definitely important for the hip-hop heads. Which label are you working with? Which label was it released on?

Stalyn Miranda: YESHUA DREAMS PRODUCTIONS.

Interview: Do you have a music video out? Do you plan on shooting one?

Stalyn Miranda: The first video I got going is a street banger. I did a collabo’ with Mellow Man Ace who is the godfather of Latin rap. It’s been taking off in California. A lot of people advised me to do a video for it and I have shot some scenes here in Toronto. It’s coming up in the new year.

Interview: And how do you feel about the Latin rap community as it stands right now?

Stalyn Miranda:  RAP in Spanish is going to take over this continent. People don’t understand our numbers. We’re about 60 million in the USA alone. In Latin America, we’re about 600 million. That’s big numbers. The thing is that with all these collaborations I did on my album, I learned that Rap in Spanish is huge. It’s a market that you can not deny. The fact that they’re already working on the underground, all it takes is one person to bring it up to the mainstream. You said that you were Portuguese, just look at Nelly Furtado. She’s a great artist from Canada and the whole album she just put out was in Spanish; she collaborated with a producer from Cuba. It’s a big market that People in Canada and USA haven’t got their hands on it yet.

Interview: All it takes is someone to come in and blow it up in order to expose North America to it.

Stalyn Miranda:  In Spanish rap, there hasn’t been a 2Pac, Biggie, Big L or Big Pun – lyrical legends but it will happen. The only person that is reaching out is 50 Cent, he's in the Spanish market. He’s done a lot of videos and rapped with a lot of the Spanish reggaeton artists. He sees the numbers. It’s all about the numbers. People are struggling right now to go platinum in the English market. In the Spanish market, there are 60 million of us in the USA alone.

Interview: If you can sell to a million of them, you’re successful.

Stalyn Miranda: A lot of the Latinos, they are waiting for someone they can relate to, somebody that looks like them. That’s where we’re on and I’m in the middle of the storm right now.

Interview: Do you think you can be the one to come in and be that figure for the Latin community?

Stalyn Miranda: Definitely; one of the reasons is because Im here right now in Toronto where it’s a great city to do business.

Interview: Oh I know. I’ve lived here my whole life.

Stalyn Miranda: The GTA (greater Toronto area) is super sick.  It gives you a totally different flavor. I’ve rapped with grimey dudes with the crazy flow and lyrical content. You can hear that flavor and sound when I‘m rapping in Spanish. You can tell I’ve rapped in ciphers and have gone in the booth with different people. Toronto is really mixed, in the GTA you can find people from anywhere in the world.

Interview: It has to be one of the most multi-cultural cities in the world. It allows you to provide the people a different flavor to your music that they can all enjoy.

Stalyn Miranda: I’ve heard Caucasians saying that they can’t understand a word I’m saying, but they appreciate my flow and energy. They actually say that. That’s big.

Interview: That doesn’t happen. That’s allowed to happen in a city like Toronto.

Stalyn Miranda: Definitely. That’s why I'm breaking through in this industry.

Interview: And where do you see yourself in five years?

Stalyn Miranda: Doing some other business ventures other than music; definitely on top of my game in the music industry. But also investing in other things. My music is just a tool for doing positives things and helping the kids. I hear about a lot of kid’s hungry everywhere in the world; and that hurts me.

Interview: I appreciate your time Stalyn. We’re going to end on that note because I really like that right there. Do you have any last

words before I let you go?

Stalyn Miranda: Honestly, I appreciate the interview and your time. check my website www.yeshuadreams.com get the album ''EL JOVEN REY'' ON I-TUNES and peace and love GOD BLESS brother.
