Check out our exclusive interview with MrE.

I2G:
All right. We’re here with MrE. How’s it going man?

MrE:
It’s going pretty good.

I2G:
All right. Let’s get into it. You just recently dropped your new single entitled “Keep On.” Tell me a little bit about the single and the video and how it came together for you.

MrE:
As I’ve stated before, I have a supervisor who is just constantly getting on my case. He just cost me a well sought out position within the job I was working at. From that moment on, I despited him and then the first thought that just came into my head was the first verse of the song, which is, “I’ll break your fucking face with your rotten teeth and braces.”

The guy actually had braces so throughout that whole day that whole line just kept playing in my head. Finally, that line just turned into a whole song by the end of the day. I just decided to put it on.

For the video, I came out with the treatment for the video, I’ve yet to see in any rap video where a rapper would wear a mask and just started rapping. The idea just sounded hilarious to me so I figured since I haven’t seen it myself I might as well recreate that moment. That’s how the video came together.

I2G:
Now, you have the new EP Prodigal Son Returns. Maybe for somebody that’s new to your music, what are listeners in store for once they check out the EP?

MrE:
It’s that you can actually find it everywhere. Take your pick. It could be iTunes, Spotify, Apple Music, just about everywhere you could find it. Or you could just go directly to my website, which is www.thedarkonebegins.com, which is pretty much a one stop shop for anywhere that you can get Prodigal Son as well as Keep On. Once again, it’s www.thedarkonebegins.com. It’s all one word and all correct spelling.

I2G:
Now, do you have any other products that you’re working on? Mix tape or an album that’s getting ready to drop soon?

MrE:
I’m currently working on a follow up single as we speak right now. It should be out either by the end of this month or early next month.

I2G:
All right, we’re now three months into 2017. Just what’s your thoughts right now on hip hop in 2017 and maybe what’s your playlist? What are you currently playing right now that’s out right now?

MrE:
Well, I got a lot of cats in my playlist. I got mostly old school stuff. P. Diddy, Eminem, DMX, Bone Thugs-n-Harmony, to name a few. The new guys I got J. Cole. I got Kendrick. I got Logic. There’s this new kid, I don’t know if he’s fairly new or been around for quite a while, he goes by the name of Futuristic. That kid’s dope as well.

Yeah. Hip hop, it’s interesting how it’s going. I mean, I don’t know. It’s evolving pretty much. You know what I mean? Still, I’m just more foundational. You know what I mean? I’m more leaning towards the golden era as we know it. The 90s and everything. Some people might call me a old hip hop head or whatever, but that’s pretty much where I get my main influence from.

You got cats like J. Cole. I believe he’s another individual who’s staying true to the art form and getting a lot of that old school influence and putting it into the way that still sounds relevant to today.

I2G:
Absolutely. All right. Do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates or anything coming up for you that you want people to know about?

MrE:
Nothing set in stone at the moment, but people can go to my website. Again, thedarkonebegins.com and sign up for the mailing list and any updates they can get it there and stay tuned.

I2G:
All right, well that’s all the questions I have for you. Appreciate you getting down for your interview. Is there any last words or shout outs you want to get out to any people?

MrE:
Yeah. Shout out to James Dunn PR. Shout out to Add Ventures Music. Shout out to my homeboy P Styles.
