Check out our exclusive interview with Molecules.
I2G is here with Molecules, how’s it going?
It’s going good. Everything is great. Just waiting on the release of “A Bronx Tale”.
Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences.
Dres from Black Sheep brought me into the game. As far as my musical influences I’d say EPMD, Marley Marl and 9th Wonder are a few that keep me motivated.
How did you come up with the name Molecules for yourself?
Back in high school some of my friends use to call me Marlo and then a friend of mine just said molecules. He was like you’re into everything and it just stuck.
Tell me a little bit about your Bronx Tale EP with Showbiz and how it came together.
I go back with Showbiz about 27 years when Show first did his ep. My group The Legion did an intro on it and we always had a close relationship. Sometime in the mid 90’s Showbiz had a project with Sony Records and he wanted me to do a song. The song was called “Revenge”, but never came out. It wasn’t until recently we decided to put it out with a video. The feedback was good so we came up with the idea to record some more songs. Our energy was so good that before we knew it we had 6 songs done. We decided to put it out as an EP and later on we’ll follow it with a full length album.
Do you have any more upcoming videos?
Yes we’re getting ready to put out the next video called “Hardcore” with Dres from Black Sheep with more to follow.
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
Some of it I like and some of it I don’t. I understand there’s a change, but they’re force feeding the change. I’m old school. I come from 90’s hip hop. I am accustomed to listening to boom bap Hip Hop. The current state that it’s in right now you don’t hear much of that.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
Right now as far as new music I’m listening to Rick Ross and number 14 on Kendrick Lamar’s album. Other than that everything from the 90’s.
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
More than likely some to come after the EP drops.
What is your website information?
Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?
Thank you for the interview and the support in keeping Hip Hop alive. Without y’all the fans wouldn’t know about the underground Hip Hop. MOLECULES/SHOWBIZ EP “A Bronx Tale” drops may 19th and The Legion new album coming soon.
