Check out I2G’s exclusive interview with Charlz Floyd.

I2G:
All right. Let’s get right into it. You just recently dropped your new single entitled Dope. Tell me a little bit about the single and how it came together for you.

Charlz:
All right. Dope basically is kind of different from what we have right now. When I came up with Dope, I was under the influence of the heavy D, the 90s retro sound, the heavy D, the Big Daddy Kane era.

I2G:
Ok.

Charlz:
Also, I was thinking about doing something a little different than the usual. I didn’t want to make … I wanted to make some music that will be fun to dance to opposed to the typical thing that’s going on today with the trap music and everything. Not saying anything’s wrong with that, but I was thinking outside of the box.

I2G:
Ok. Do you have the video planned for the single?

Charles:
Right now, working on that, getting treatment together, and everything. Equipment together. We want to make sure that it’s done right. We don’t want to to just throw anything out there.

I2G:
Okay, now you’re also working on a new EP. Do you have a release date set for the project? What’s the title of it? Just tell me a little bit about the EP and how it came together for you.

Charlz:
All right, well the EP, there’s no specific release date right now. Basically we’re just going by … Basically, we’re going to see how Dope does and basically that will … Depending on how Dope does and the response from Dope, we’ll see the direction we’re going to go in. I do have a name for it. The EP is called Gink00zerozero. How I came up with that basically is because Gink is a fellow or a man or boy who feels frowned upon or looked upon as weird or different because of the things that he does. The perception of people who lack creativity who are free to be different. That was my perception of it, so that’s why I decided to call the EP Gink00zerozero.

I2G:
Ok. Now, later on this year, do you have any other plans, dropping a mix tape or an album after the EP, or are you just going to stick with the EP for awhile?

Charlz:
After the EP, I’m sure it’s going to be, we’re going to drop some mix tapes. Currently working on the album right now, and you have to build up to the album. So basically it’s going to be a lot of promotions and things like that before the album comes.

I2G:
Just what’s your thoughts on hip hop in 2017 and what’s currently playing on your playlist right now?

Charlz:
Hip hop 2017? I’m a fan of music. I love the music that’s out right now. What was the other question? You said, my perception of hip hop? What I thought of hip hop right now?

I2G:
Yeah, just your current thoughts on Hip Hop. Where you think hip hop’s headed musically and maybe just some of your favorite albums or what you’re currently playing right now.

Charlz:
Ok. What I’m currently playing right now, man, messing with Future. I like the direction that Future is going into. Seems like he’s going into an R&B kind of … Lately I’ve been on My Grown Man. I’ve been listening to a lot of Anderson Paak, Future. But I kind of need that. I’m a 90s kid, so I kind of stick with the retro. But right now, with what I have, I’ve been bumping Anderson Paak lately. Love Anderson Paak, dude.

I2G:
Okay. All right. Absolutely. All right, do you have any upcoming shows or tour dates or anything coming up for our listeners to know about?

Charlz:
That’s in the air right now. Right now I’ve just been in the lab just creating and coming up with music, just ideas and things of that nature. I’m sure there will be some shows in the near future, and I’ll definitely keep you guys posted for our future shows and tour dates and stuff.

I2G:
Ok. All right, what’s your website information for people looking to check out your music and see what you’ve got going on?

Charlz:
My website is www.charlzfloyd.com. You’ll also catch me on Instagram, Facebook. Most of my updates and everything will be on the website. Shows and events and stuff like that.

I2G:
All right. Well that’s all the questions I have for you. Appreciate you getting down for an interview. Is there any last words or shout outs you want to get out there to the people?

Charlz:
I just want to say I’ve got some good things coming in the near future and I won’t let you guys down. You guys will be pleased with what I’ll be bringing in the near future.
