Check out our exclusive interview with B-Flix.
I2G is here with B-Flix, how’s it going?
It’s going pretty good, thank you! It’s always great doing interviews, thank you for allowing me to share my message!
Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in music and who are some of your musical influences.
I wrote my first song when I was eleven years old, it wasn’t very good haha, but it definitely sparked something inside of me. I always loved music and writing stories, but being born in 1993, and seeing the rise of people like Eminem, Jay-Z, 50 Cent, and Kanye West really helped me discover my love for hip-hop, and urban music in general. In highschool a friend of mine, he’ll know who he is haha, was in a couple of bands and asked me to write some lyrics for them. Unfortunately those songs were never performed, but that experience drove me to start a ‘solo career’ if you will haha. I originally started with rap because I couldn’t sing very well. The moment I heard “Marvins Room” by Drake I knew that was the sound I wanted to create in my songs. Drake has been a huge influence in my life and career, and I have even seen him in concert nine times. Drake, as well as my mentor Rob Lamothe of the Riverdogs, are the reasons I started focusing on strengthening my singing to add another element to my music.
Tell me a little bit about your new single, Poetic Emotion.
This single was originally going to be on a dance EP I was thinking about making about two years ago, but as my musical style evolved I realised that a song of this nature could be included with the rest of my catalogue; although it has a “dancy’ vibe to it, it still has all of the elements that make up a B-Flix track. The instrumental is by my buddy Dee C who is out in California, there are backing vocals by the very talented Rose Lamothe (recorded by my mentor Rob Lamothe), and of course there is the opening verse by RiFF RAFF. I contemplated who I should feature on this track, and I’m very happy with the energy Mr. Highroller brought to the song. A big thank you to Let’s Do This Entertainment as well for recording and producing my vocals!
Do you have a upcoming Mixtape or album set to drop?
I’m currently working on my fourth full length album entitled, Forget Me Not: A Champagne Playlist.
Do you have any more upcoming videos?
Over the next eight to ten months I hope to release a number of singles, with accompanying videos, to lead up to my next album release.
What are your current thoughts on the music industry?
I think that the music industry is changing so fast it’s hard to keep up! One day this site is hot for listening to music, then the next thing you know everybody has shifted to a different service. With me having Spinal Muscular Atrophy, all of the technology has really allowed me to make music easier, and faster though, so I’m grateful for that aspect.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
Well there is ALWAYS some sort of Drake music on my playlist haha, but I’m a fan of any genre of music. It’s really cool living in Ontario, Canada these days with all of the stars coming out of this hub. If I’m traveling somewhere I’m usually listening to top 40 radio, but at home I like to listen to a lot of Canadian urban underground stuff. Artists like: Frank Douglas, Tyler Durand, iLLvibe x Myer Clarity, Troy McGinn, D.O. Gibson, Merkules, Astin Clark, Lil Drik, and many more that I’ve probably forgotten to mention haha. I’m also a big fan of artists like Sammy Davis Jr., Michael Jackson, and Stevie Wonder.
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
I don’t currently have any dates set in stone, but if these next few singles get enough traction I’d definitely like to schedule some shows.

Appreciate the interview, any last words or shout outs?
I’d like to thank my buddy, business partner, co-executive producer on all of my music, and brother-from-another-Mother, Shane McCurdy. Without his mixing, editing, and mastering I wouldn’t sound even half as good as I do on this record haha. I’d also like to thank my parents, because without them I’d be nowhere. Lastly, I have to thank all of my supporters and fans; you all keep me going!!!
