I2G:
All right, we hear with Sheik Kargbo. How’s it going man?

SHEIK KARGBO:
It’s going good. How y’all feeling?

I2G:
Good, good. Let’s get right into it. You just recently dropped your new LP “The Speakeasy Experience”.

SHEIK KARGBO:
Yeah.

I2G:
Tell me a little bit about the album, how it came together for you.

SHEIK KARGBO:
Oh, man. It’s just really documenting a lot of instances as you’re goin through life. It’s a variation of records that was put together in a short period of time. Produced it myself. It was just … It’s hard to explain, the big idea. Y’all just gonna have to look into it. It’s definitely very jazzy, very smooth. You know what I mean? It has it’s ups and downs like a roller coaster ride. Very colorful, but it gets dark as well. You know what I’m saying?

Collective of records as that way and no records sound the same. You feel me? I don’t know, it was a good experience. Real cool, making the record. Hopefully it goes well. We all did enjoy it. We want y’all to vibe.

I2G:
Absolutely. I checked it out pretty much all this week. It’s definitely one of the best projects so far that’s dropped in 2017, so I’m definitely feeling it.

SHEIK KARGBO:
Oh, I appreciate that, man.

What’s your thoughts right now on the state of hip hop and the music that’s coming out right now. Maybe, who’s playing on your playlist or who you’re feeling right now, that’s out right now. Or just anything that you’re playing.

SHEIK KARGBO:
Let’s see. Yeah, that’s right … The state of hip hop, to me, is cool. I’m in a different avenue, as you can see. It just depends on which avenue you’re comfortable, you know what I mean? It makes art. I don’t know, it’s addicting. It’s addicting. Sometimes you have stuff that feels like your traditional rap record. Stuff that’s not their staple … But it’s good that that exists as well, because then there’s a balance. A good balance. Show people different aspects of this sport called hip hop. It’s relevant.

I2G:
Ok. Alright. Absolutely.

SHEIK KARGBO:
Shout out to those people who worked on that instead of, like … It gives another aspect, too. Not just the music. Also like … You see how certain artists are branded. And you see it’s like Wow. Okay. That’s what’s going on over there? Alright. And it keeps it new. So it really doesn’t … The state of hip hop, I don’t know, it just depends on what you like. I think that’s a very subjective objective to have. I love it. There’s good music that I like, that’s coming out.

I2G:
I get answers all across the gamut from people that are super pissed about it. Some people are super happy. It’s like what you said. It’s all how you look at it.

SHEIK KARGBO:
It’s just how you look at it. I like the fact that everyone is being challenged into being good at what they do to separate from what they don’t want to be. You know what I’m saying?

I2G:
Right.

SHEIK KARGBO:
Alright, cool. If you don’t want to be bubblegum or whatever, you can feel it, then you gotta rap your ass off. That’s just my back. And if you want to be on the opposite end then, you can go ahead and do that. But you gotta do that to the max as well. Either way you look at it, you still gotta hustle.

Most say quality over quantity. I’m saying I’ll give you both. I’ll give you quality AND quantity. 18 solid records on there. Enjoy.

I2G:
Absolutely. Absolutely. Do you have any last words or shout outs you want to give out to other people?

SHEIK KARGBO:
Just go get that Speakeasy Experience. It’s just definitely a good vibe for the summer. You know what I mean? If you want to get action … if you just want to get loose [inaudible 00:07:23]. If you want a beat … Just vibe and smoke.
