Check out our exclusive interview with Alexander Fre$co.
I2G is here with Alexander Fre$co, how’s it going?
-Everything is good. Out here doing my thing trying to take over the world. Slowly but showly. I just dropped my project Neon Nights and couldn’t be happier. It’s a different feeling getting everyone’s words/ reviews from just listening to myself and waiting on a drop date. Reviews are in and they are all positive. I’m elated.
Tell me a little bit about how you got your start in hip hop and who are some of your musical influences.
-I first started listening to Rap in 2003, before then it was all Pop and R&B. I started watching shows like 106&Park and sum music videos on VH1, and it really turned me on to a lot more music. Other than that, the only rap music I heard was on the radio. One of the first things I wanted to do, in 2007, was to be a song writer, because of my influence from The-Dream but once I got to college that’s when I wanted to be in the spotlight. I first gained my rap style from Rick Ross, Drake, Ludacris & T.I. Until I came into my own and started to develop my own flow. Now I gain influences from Travis $cott and Tyler, The Creator.
You recently dropped your incredible new album Neon Nights. Tell me a little bit about the album and how it came together for you.
-The album is a step out from the usual, but it’s still me. People usually see me turnt up and full of energy, but on this one, it’s slow and vibes only. The process of this album was a tricky one because it was never intended to be all vibes. The project I initially had was a project including everything, Rap & R&B mostly, that was suppose to come out March 2017 called “The Show” but when I went back to listen it, it wasn’t flowing the way I wanted it to. So I separated it and added songs, and called it Neon Nights. Neon Nights is one of those albums you listen to at night and puts you in the right mood while you drive. Pop it in while you driving with your girl, and watch the mood change.
Do you have any more upcoming videos?
-For right now the goal is 3 more music videos for this project. I don’t want to say for which ones just yet, just be on the look out. I have a lot of things cooking and I want the people to be excited when I do.
What are your current thoughts on the state of the music industry and the music scene in Mississippi?
-With Mississippi, I feel that it’s the same as any other state. But there’s no national attention that comes with it. You have artists that can make it big but without the support of the big companies/ outlets they have to go elsewhere, where they can make it and it’s completely understandable. I feel like MS as a whole just needs a little more time to figure out it’s music scene, until then we will continue to sound like everybody else but I’m only speaking Rap music. We getting there, I see the potential and I really want to be the one to bring the awareness to MS, it’s only right. If I win, Mississippi wins. Simple as that.
What is currently playing on your playlist musically?
-currently I have Me( Alexander FRE$CO), The-Internet, Travis $cott, Meek Mill, Tyler, The Creator, Anita Baker, Rae Sremmurd, Drake, Beyonce, Frank Ocean etc
Do you have any shows or tour dates?
-Upcoming Tours, yes I do have but I can’t announce yet. Everything needs to be finalized but they are coming. At the moment it’s 3, June, July, & October. I’m excited. It’s all an experience and I can’t wait to meet new people and see new faces. And when I tell them I’m from MS it’s a complete surprised and they are intrigued even more. I gotta. But all in all I have to move in silence, ya know.
