Illuminati 2G

Stay Enlightened With Hip Hop!!!

VEGAS INTERVIEW 4/20/08

Illuminati 2G chopped game with Detroit's own Vegas for a interview. Many of you will remember his single, Keys To The Truck, which is currently on the website and has recieved good feedback. In this interview we discuss his new album, his views on hip hop and in his hometown and much more so sit back and enjoy.

How did you get your start in the rap game?

I used to host Talent Shows. I got a lil tired of hearing rappers spit the same shit over and over. I wanted to hear something from a different prospective. So I decided to create music I wanted to hear. Surprisingly it's been what a lot of people have been wanting to hear.

Who are some of your biggest musical influences?

First and foremost, Detroit's own Stevie Wonder hands down. Its all about the lyrics and the beat expressing those lyrics. In hiphop I would say Andre 300/ Outkast, Nas and Snoop Dogg.

How did you come up with the name of Vegas?

Well everybody around my way used to say that every time they would hang wit me they ended up having a real good time. Sort of like a trip out to VEGAS. So when I got into the entertainment business the name VEGAS just stuck. It goes along perfect with everything I'm into now.

What is the music scene like in Detroit these days? Beyond Eminem and the whole Shady Records crew.

Some of the underground MUSIC itself is really good. But, truthfully, the music (Hip Hop) industry here seems to lack structure. You can have a hit record here ( Detroit)but with no major labels here and no industry guidance, your hit song would probably produce little. So we at MLK Recordings plan to change that and bring structure , and really good music back to the D.

Tell me more about the new single Keys To The Truck and the process of making that single. It's getting good feedback on the site.

I wrote "Keys to the Truck" having fun. I'm always loosing my damn keys to both of my trucks. So everyday I would ask my family, and co-workers who got my "Keys to my Truck"? have yall seen my damn "Keys to the Truck'? Who moved my damn "Keys to the Truck"? It was so catchy I started asking around is there a song out yet? Everyone said no, so I said "now it is" (ha ha ha)

Tell me about the new album out now. Who did the beats, guests and where people can pick up the album.

The new album is set to be release late summer 2008, Its entitled

VEG'S Project: Entry Level

Man, it crazy. This album will highlight Motown Music at it's best.

The production is done by some of the hottest producer in Detroit. I feature other MLK Recordings Artist, Jet Black,, on the second single So Fly,,,,,The Voice Elle is feature on 3 tracks… This Album will be a certified Classic.. Mark my word!!! What's crazy is that I recorded "Keys to the Truck" the second time I ever was in a studio. No lie. My session was wrapping up and I only had 20 minutes to fit it in. And in 20 minute History Happen. That's when I said, yo I got something here. I left it in its' original form. I've touched it or recorded nothing. It's raw as hell in its original state, like it is suppose to be.

How would you best describe the vibe of the album and what people can expect when they listen to it?

This album is not just the same ol shit over and over. Entry Level is original. You will hear the snap and pop sound, to hood bass, ol school hip hop, deep emotional love tracks, and what we call here in the D hustle and ballroom music. Loaded , Loaded, Loaded. I mean you probably won't need to buy another CD for at least 6 month. I'm telling you, if you like "Keys to the Truck" you are going to love the Entry Level. I bet the house and my trucks on it.

So what is planned next after the album? Any mixtapes or anything?

On the low, I'm not planning anything after this album, because I'm so focused on delivering a classic. I can't think about anything else. Yo I'm booked for shows and shit now, I'll shoot you the break down. But I'm thinking that I might be on tour for like a year or two off the Entry Level. I'm telling you, this is not just some disposable hiphop. I'm hitting dudes with life music. Music you clean your crib to on Saturday morning, and turn around and drop a stack to at the club on Saturday night. Music you and your kids can vibe to in the ride.

Truthfully that's why I don't do a lot of mixtapes. I'm not into wasting flow, Flow is too important to waste.

What is your opinion on the state of hip hop today?

I feel that hip hop went from a prom queen to a cheap hooker is matter of minutes. I don't blame her doe. I blame us, the tricks that just keep paying and paying for a quickie. We, the tricks, got to stop going for the quick money and try to transform her back to a top-notch chick. That starts with mastering our craft, and putting out the best product you can produce with what you got.

Any upcoming tour dates or shows?

I'll hit you back with those. I know we are rocking the Michigan State Fair on June 21 for sure. I 'll get wit management and holla back.

Thanks for the interview man. You have any last words or shoutouts?
